Radar Detector Test

The Maximum range radar detection test was performed on a four mile straight stretch of highway with slightly sloping hills.

It should be noted that case law mandates that an officer must establish a "visual tracking history" on a target vehicle and the distances that an officer can get an accurate reading on a violator as seldom greater then 1/4 of a mile. In fact a New Jersey Superior Court ruling restricted use of laser within a 1000 foot range as the officer cannot able to properly identify the vehicle and substantiate his belief that that the vehicle is speeding.

To be effective, a radar detector should be able to notify the driver of radar use at least four times the distance away (capture area).
