Over The Hill
Radar Detector Testing

This is a very important test measuring the detector's ability to warn the driver if a radar gun is in use over a hill. Line of sight reception is much easier and the sensitivity of a detector is directly related to its ability to see around corners or over a hill. The better sensitivity of a detector, the better it performs over the hill.

Test vehicles were placed 1/4 and 1/2 miles from the base van over a hill. Again instant on and constant on transmissions using all three Ka band frequencies.

Each detector was given two tries in all situations. Results are averaged. Percentages are not reported as with the straight line test, only the signal strength of each detector's warning. The percentage of response is reported meaning if the detector reported four times out of sixteen exposures it received a response percentage of 25%. If the detector reported radar one of the two tries in each category it is listed as reporting the transmission. However, the one miss is deducted from the final percentage of response. This means the detector reported radar guns over the hill 25% of the time. "N" means the detector did not report a radar warning.

The first number indicates the level of alert and the last number indicates the maximum alert for that particular brand. As an example; 1/5 would mean that one light of five indicator lights were lit on that detector.
