Radar Detector Reviews and Performance Overview

What’s the point of having a radar detector if it’s not going to protect you when you need it most?

We rank radar detectors differently than our competitors, who put together fancy graphs showing you how many miles away the detectors they promote were able to detect.

Why? Because most of them do their testing out in the middle of a flat desert, away from all the things that could interfere with the performance of the detector, thus giving potential customers an unrealistic view on how their detector should work.

Our office is right next to the one of flattest stretches of highway in Arizona, the Carefree Highway, so it would be a lot easier for us to walk out our doors and do a test just like our competitors do.

Radar Detector ReviewHowever let us ask you this:

When was the last time you drove on a highway like the one on the right, flat as far as the eye can see with little or no humidity, cars, trucks, buildings, hills or signs to reflect and block the signal?

Probably hardly ever.

Because of this, we do our testing differently and measure our results by calculating the capture distance of a typical police K and Ka band radar gun.

Hi, we're RadarBusters. RadarBusters was founded by a retired police officer and certified traffic radar instructor.

His 40+ years of experience has shown that the capture rate distance of a police radar gun is the most important factor that you should take into consideration when buying a detector.

Yes, it is a lot harder do the testing and detector reviews in this fashion. However, we believe it is worth the time and effort to give you the right information, so that you can choose the right detector for you.

Because we do reviews in this fashion, we're able to provide you a simpler way to choose the detector that is just right for you.

Cheap Radar Detector

For example, lets say you purchase one of the detectors that we rate as having a 1.5 capture range of a police radar gun.

Well, by the time it takes your detector to properly interpret the police's radar gun's signal and react, you’re pretty much need to stomp on the brakes.

Now, on the flip side, by selecting one of the detectors we recommend with either 4 or 5 stars, you will have a higher likelihood of detecting instant on radar miles ahead, affording you plenty of time to slow down.

Also, these 4 and 5 star detectors typically provide adequate warnings if you frequently drive in areas with mountainous terrain.

Radar Detector Star Rating Overview

There are only a handful or radar detectors in our 5 Star category including the Escort Max 360c, Escort iXc, and Escort Redline EX.

Why?

These detectors have superior range in comparison to many others on the market today, and they are also GPS enabled detectors, which puts both of them into a class by themselves.

Radar Detector RankingsNext, we have the 4 Star category. Detectors in this category offer terrific performance but typically are less expensive.

Our 3-Star category of detectors tend to be less expensive as well while still providing you ample range and performance for typical highway and city driving.

Then, in my 2-Star category, we have detectors that I estimate as having 3 times the capture rate of a police radar gun. This means that you have plenty of time to slow down in constant on-radar scenarios. However, you may leaving yourself vulnerable by not being able to detect instant on radar miles ahead of you or in mountainous terrain.

Now, we have our 1-star category, these are typically the worst detectors, and unlike our competitors who will sell you anything to make a buck, we refuse to sell them.

We also provide performance rankings for the most popular detectors RadarBuster's offers.

We have a video demonstrating how the Spectre IV radar detector detector works, along with a list of detectors that can defeat it.

Do you sell “invisible” radar detectors?

These are the radar detectors that are designed to be concealed in your car.

Do you sell a radar detector detector jammer?
