When investing in a radar detector two of your biggest concerns is
the detector’s ability to sniff out real police radar threats and its
ability to filter out false alerts, here is why.
Police
departments across the world are now in the process of updating their
equipment to the new, low power battery operated hand held digital radar
guns.
All of these types of radar guns are instant on, meaning
that they do NOT transmit any radar signal until the officer has a
target vehicle in sight and presses the trigger.
Because of this when you select your radar detector, an important consideration is its ability to detect instant on miles away.
Then another problem, the anti-collision sensors that are being installed in most new cars today.
These
sensors operate on the same K-Band frequency that police use and
because of this most radar detectors constantly false alert.
The
Escort 8500 X50 uses an older version of their DSP algorithm, thus it does
lack the filtering and performance found in Escort’s newer detectors
such as the
Passport, the Passport Max and the Passport Max2.
Because of this we feel you would be making a better investment by puchasing one of the detectors listed above.
High Performance
Escort’s M4 antenna has 4 times the capture distance of a police K and Ka radar gun, providing you with adequate time to slow down when approaching speed traps.
Filtering
Because the Escort 8500 x50 uses
somewhat dated DPS technology when compared to the newer Passport, the
Passport Max and the Passport Max2, it does not have the filtering
characteristics needed to block out false alerts caused by the
anti-collision sensors installed in many new cars today.
Because of this we would recommend instead in investing in one of Escort's newer detectors.

The Escort 8500x50 is pre-set and ready to go out of the box, but some of our power users may want to set the unit up to complement their own driving experience and personal preference.
The easy to use 8500x50 preferences menu allows you to do this in a snap. Don’t drive in an area where X band is used? Turn it off. Would you rather use the Expert Meter display? Turn it on. It is that easy.
