Police Speed Enforcement Tactics in Alabama

The use of radar detectors and laser jammers are legal in the State of Alabama in all passenger vehicles.

Points of Interest


  • Traffic must stop in both directions on multi-lane highways when school buses are discharging passengers.
  • State law requires that you have your headlights on whenever you operate your windshield wipers.
  • Handguns must be unloaded and placed into a case in the trunk or storage area, unless one is permitted to carry. Rifles and shotguns maybe carried in the passenger area in plain view while loaded.

  • Texting ban while driving
  • No handheld ban while driving (16/17 year old drivers and drivers having a license less then 6 months are prohibited in using a cell phone while driving)
