Counter Measure Equipment
Radar Roy's job for this nine day, 3500 mile cross country rally is to select the top radar and laser counter measure equipment and to make the cars all but invisible to the law enforcement speed devices along the trip. Radar Detection Equipment As the route of the race for the participants is secret, with the drivers only knowing the begriming of the race and the end. Therefore Radar Roy needed to select a radar detector that would be stealthy to the police and to have extreme range. Radar detectors are illegal in the state of Virginia and in Washington DC. Police in these areas use a device called a "radar detector detector" to sniff out radar detectors. The only radar detector made today, that can defeat all of these RDD devices is the Beltronics STi. During the Speed Measurement Labs test in June of 2006, the STi was the leader of the pack with the longest range range on Ka band then any other of the radar detectors tested. Laser Defense Many states are making the transition to lidar speed enforcement equipment. During the 2005 Cannonball Race, only Radar Roy's sponsored car was equipped with laser counter measure equipment. During this race, Roy's sponsored car was lasered a total of six times. During their first encounter J. Stated " I saw him activate a laser gun and the Blinder lit up like a whore on payday " and I was sure that they had caught us, however it " was jam to the gun! " Looking in their rear view mirror they never saw the trooper pull out from his perch. As portions of the rally will head through a few states where laser jammers are illegal, it was decided to install the Blinder laser jamming system as it is less likely than other models to produce a jamming code. Another consideration was that police departments in the Southeastern USA were known to use the Laser Atlanta gun, and the Blinder is the only jammer made today that can effectively jam this gun. To provide the drivers with a better edge, the VEIL stealth coating will be applied to the cars headlamps and turn signals. |
