There are big detectors, small detectors, some have LED displays and some have LCD. Some come with cords, some without. Some mount on the dash, some behind the grill. The choices are many and sometimes confusing.

Radar Roy, who is a retired police officer and a certified traffic radar instructor, is here to help you select the best radar detector and/or laser jammer for your budget and also help you understand some of the many features that are important in your selection.

First, you must understand the purpose of a radar detector, regardless of the manufacture's claims, is to protect yourself from getting a deserved or undeserved speeding ticket, by a police officer using a radar gun.

Radar detectors are not very effective at all in protecting you against a police laser gun. For laser enforcement we recommend either the Veil stealth coating and/or a laser jammer.
