So I've had the 995 for a week, bought this mid November 2010, already it has saved my tail!
incident #1
one morning i was driving, was 8 over not knowing i was, the unit lit up, sure enough about 1.3 miles from my hit (used my AB trip meter on car to determine distance in miles) and on a curve road! there was a trooper in his car facing my way with radar, had plenty of time to adjust my speed and continue on with my morning with a smile.
Ku incident
I live in the US and 2 times at two different areas of town my unit has picked up Ku (10.xxx), which is extremely rare in the states, but sure enough my state must use Ku, althought i was unable to locate the source of the Ku hit.
incident # 2
i was cruising around my university around 11pm and tons of cars were in front of me, all of a sudden i got a POP hit, then boom a Ka tripped my unit over the POP and guess what, about .5 miles up the street the trooper used pop on a car and tagged him using Ka.
Incodent # 3
I was on my way home coasting down hill, 7 over didnt realize, it was on a long 1.5 miles curve road down hill, No cars in sight this was 3am in the morning, all of a sudden my unit lit off and i slowed down and looked around, then looking in my rear view mirror, this cop was hauling down the road toward me, he was a good .4 miles behind me when my unit picked him up, on a curve and still had time to adjust my speed
Cons:
only con is that when a cop sees me with my radar detector, he stares at me, glares in spite, waits for me to get ahead of him, gets behind me and follows me, like on my bumper , for a good 3-4 stop lights, even turning at the lights, this has happened 4 times with all different cops.

the plastic lens cover for the receiver easily scratches, i used a microfiber 100% cotton lens cleaning cloth, Which i normaly use to clean my glasses which are to very sensitive to scratches, and my cloth scratched the lens receiver plastic cover very badly,( many fine swirl marks and fine sratches) but i heard (on a radar detector forum) Beltronics will send you a replacement plastic lens cover at no charge while it is under warrenty.
False pick up
My unit picks up the occasional X false and a few K falses, however. the route i normally encounter these falses, i now use tec mode to know the exact frequency so when i see that hit, ill know its false.
For my benefit, im going to mount my radar detector in the corner of my windshield between my pillar and gauge cluster, be more hidden from view, and at night keep it on dark mode and volume up!

Some reviews said that it pickup the speed boxes on the side of the road at 3 miles away. I've been traveling through a work zone every day for a month with it and it picks up at half a mile every day. It has kept me from getting several tickets, it is definitely payed for itself several times over. Yet, there have been a few situations that were still to close for comfort. With just 3 or 4 seconds to slow down. I know from plenty of experience. I drive 50 miles on way to work and I average passing 5 cops with radar on each way about everyday! I like my Beltronic I wouldn't send it back. It ain't perfect, but what in this world is???

Since installing my Beltronics Vector 995 RD, I've had to many false alarms whats up with that, Band x would go off but no cop around also K band would alert me but again no cop in area and finnally Ka would light up and guess what NO COP anywhere to be seen. I though this type of Radar Detector would not give any false alerts. Ken

First bough a Cobra; replaced it 5 days later with the Bel 995. The next day drove from Colorado Springs, CO. to Tempe, AZ wih stop over in Albuquere, NM.894 miles on interstate highways. The first alert was Ka band. Slowed down to 60mph from 80. Still no cop after about 1/2 mile. Topped a hill went down into a valley and he was in the median; 1.2 miles from when the alarm went off! I was shocked.
Had only one possible false alert whole trip (passed a mall close to highway). On two other occasions had ample alert notice especially in work zones (well before getting to construction area). By far this is the best detector I have ever owned. Being retired we travel often and I condider my Bel 995 my guardian angel. Easy setup, easy to program, many good features.

Just starting enjoying this detector, false warnings have disappeared in areas that in the past had been very annoying. I commute 100 miles round trip a day to work and it provides some piece of mine.

Q1: can the beltronics 955 be used on a motorcycle? and if so how do I mount it??
A: The 955 can be used with a motorcycle, but it is not water resistant. You would need a proper mount. The type of mount will depend upon the type of motorcycle it's being mounted to. Installation is simple and can be done by the customer in most cases.
Q2: This unit was listed under the motorcycle detectors tab. Is it water resistant?
A: No. The Vector 955 is not water resistant. For motorcycle use the radar unit needs to be removed in inclement weather.
Q3: Bel V995 description states, "Reprogrammable Processor Using the latest technology in "flash" microprocessors, the Vector 995's software is upgradable to address new threats in speed measurement devices" I couldn;t find any mention of this in the ownersmanual or on the Beltronics website. Is this accurate? If so, what other information do you have on this? Thanks!
A: Beltronics offers service upgrades on all the detectors they sell. You are able to mail your detector in to them and for a service fee (depending on the unit) they will upgrade you with the latest software and flash drive.
