The Direct Wire Cord provides a more permanent mounting option for your Escort and Bel radar detectors.  Uses RJ-11 "telephone-style" detector connection. 

  • Fits Escort Passport models 9500i, 9500ix, 8500 X50, 8500, 7500S, 7500, 6800 and Solo S2. 
  • Fits Beltronics models STi Driver, RX65, RX55, 995, 965, 955, 940, 895, 795.  Note: Not for earlier 940 model with round power jack.
  • Cord length -  approx. 8 feet

Installation Instructions


Important Note:  The Direct Wire SmartCord must be installed by someone familiar with automotive electrical systems.  If in doubt, see your car dealer or a car radio installer.


The direct wire cord comes with connector to allow easy hook-up to your car's electrical system.


The black ground wires is fitted with a lug to allow it to be installed under any ground screw under your vehicle's dashboard.


The red/black striped wire for +12 volts is fitted with an insulated 1/4" male spade lug.  We also have supplied a special 3M connector (in blue) that allows you to tap into an existing wire in your vehicle.  This connector can be used only with wire gauges 14 through 18.


To install the connector, position it around the wire you wish to tap into, and squeeze it with pliers until the halves snap together.  It is recommended that you tap into "switched" circuit of the vehicle - one that is on when the vehicle is on and off when the vehicle is off.   The direct wire can then be plugged into this connector.  Make sure the clear insulator sleeve on the direct wire completely covers the connection.

    I had been looking for a hardwire kit to hardwire my 9500ix into my BMW for a while. I didnt wanna use the fuse box as then id have to run cable all over the place. I bought this kit as i have a switched 12V cable thats used for a universal garage door opener wired above the cabin lights. The interlocking fastener thats included spliced right into the wire and got a current. I stowed the excess cable above the interior lights and ran the RJ11 jack through the headliner to where i wanted my detector mounted above my rear view mirror.

    Now its extremely hard to see i run a detector from outside, and its located up high for the best detection range of radar.

    Product does exactly what its suppose to, kind of hard to install if you want to do it right (tapped it into the cigarette lighter adapter's power cord). Much more convenient then the cigarette lighter adapter cord that comes with the radar detector; turns the radar detector on when you start the car and off when you turn the car off.

        Worked great on my 2009 Ford Ranger. If will work better if you buy the Direct wire fuse kit.Just hook Direct wire to Radar Detector and run to fuse box. Crimp Direct wire fuse kit to end of wire. Plug direct wire fuse kit wire into Radio fuse. Attach ground wire to any metal part of frame. There is no place to hook ground wire in fuse box of a Ranger. Took about an hour.

          You need to get the add a circuit kit that is compatible with your type of fuse for your car. Ideally, just open your fuse box and see what you have. Like it says in Roy's guide video, the Mini fuse is the size of your pinky nail, the other fuse size is as big as your thumb.

            After using the factory Escort cord I decided to buy this direct wire kit to use instead. Before my RD's wouldn't turn off when the car was off.

            Now, with this direct wire kit my Redline turns on and off with the car.

            I'm now able to use a visor mount for my Redline, so this cord provides more of a stealth look for my Redline.

            I would highly recommend this direct cord.
