The Direct Wire SmartCord provides a more discrete and more permanent mounting option for your Escort radar detector. It includes a built-in alert lamp, pilot light and convenient mute button. Ideal for matching your blue light or red light Escort 8500 X50 radar detector.
Fits Escort Passport models 9500i, 8500 X50, 8500, 7500S, 7500, 6800 and Solo S2.
Installation Instructions
Important Note: The Direct Wire SmartCord must be installed by someone familiar with automotive electrical systems. If in doubt, see your car dealer or a car radio installer.
The direct wire cord comes with connector to allow easy hook-up to your car's electrical system.
The black ground wires is fitted with a lug to allow it to be installed under any ground screw under your vehicle's dashboard.
The red/black striped wire for +12 volts is fitted with an insulated 1/4" male spade lug. We also have supplied a special 3M connector (in blue) that allows you to tap into an existing wire in your vehicle. This connector can be used only with wire gauges 14 through 18.
To install the connector, position it around the wire you wish to tap into, and squeeze it with pliers until the halves snap together. It is recommended that you tap into "switched" circuit of the vehicle - one that is on when the vehicle is on and off when the vehicle is off. The direct wire can then be plugged into this connector. Make sure the clear insulator sleeve on the direct wire completely covers the connection.
