It does what its intended to do plan and simple.
I'll start with the cons first:
Cord length is a bit short if your intending on using any outlet not directly below the spot its mounting (cord not stretched is like a foot, and 3ft stretched)
It does give false alerts and only when its in a city and your passing stores (mainly pharmacies walmarts grocery stores) with automatic doors. Not a big deal, your probably not speeding in those areas because they are congested.
This thing has probably saved me from 2 tickets so far in the first 2 months of ownership. 2 tickets at $100 bucks lets say, = 200 dollars, yup, it paid for itself already.

What I use it for:
I live in an area of NH (mostly Ka and K band) where there aren't a lot of highways connecting the major areas but instead main roads that are about 55MPH that switch to 30MPH with little warning (and the cops are strict about it too!)
If your not familar with the road, chances are you miss the 30MPH switch but still feel that the speed limit is about 40-45 since its still 2 lanes for each direction and bam, the first cop that passes you snags you for going 15-20 over.
So I got this because I was fed up with getting speeding tickets when I was honestly unaware I was even speeding.

Now on to how well it works:
ITS GREAT!
The range for the price in my opinion is great.
It picks up Ka and K at great lengths to give you time to slow down. Some of the instances I got warned:
I was going about 65 in a 50MPH (again a road that was 2 lanes each direction) and I was coming up on a hill. The radar starting giving a 1 bar warning then instantly a 2. So since I was not really around anything I trusted it and slowed down to 50MPH. Soon as I got to the top of the hill, I trooper passed me going the opposite direction. Wow! Great warning from on the other side of a pretty sized hill!
Another time I was coming up on construction on the other side of a Jersey Barrier on a highway.
I had about 1 minute of driving time at 55MPH of warning. The cop was facing the direction I was coming from, and behind a bunch of construction vehicles. I wasn't speeding at the time or in danger of being radared by hims since he was on the other side, but still, knowing it can pick him up with stuff in the way is a plus.
Another instance was those silly SPEED LIMIT IS:
YOUR SPEED IS: signs. It was facing for the opposite direction traffic. I was getting a huge signal from it approaching it (not in its line of aim yet) passed it, and the signal got weak, then got in its field of aim, and the signal got as strong as it was. Confused at first, I realized that it was bouncing off the billboard in front of its field of aim!
I WOULD BUY THIS IF YOU ARE THE PERSON WHO DOESNT GO 80 ON THE HIGHWAY, BUT WOULD LIKE THE PEACE OF MIND KNOWING THEY WILL NEVER GET A TICKET AT THE SPEED THEY USUALLY GO: 10MPH OVER.

Well, the title says it all. It is the best, for under [$] Ive been in friends cars that had escorts and higher end beltronics and they have had much more warning time then this unit. I figured id give it a month before i wrote a review for it because i wanted to test it out. In that time i drove around 800 city and 700 highway miles. In the city its either a hit or miss. Luckily the times i wasnt speeding more then 7 or 8 mph, it picked it up. But other times id be going around a corner and before it goes off i already see the cop. When its T ( on my side), the radar goes off after i have already passed the cop, not before, and it gets stronger as i go away for about a quarter of a mile then goes away. It did save me a few times granted, but nothing that a cheaper cobra couldnt have done. On the highway, i tested it out doing 15-20 over the speed limit(70). Sadly, on the trip i really only got 3 hits and 2 were opposite directions. Though, it did save me once when an undercover cop car was in the left lane parked waiting with his radar on and a motorcycle cop a half mile up the road under a bridge. It did allow me enough time to slow down move over and not get caught (80 in a 55). Depending on its use, i would or would not recommend it. Your choice.

Comments about Beltronics Vector 955 Radar Detector:

Many times this unit has alerted me to something ahead that I could not see. I also got alerts from police cars that were around the bend in the road. You can usually depend on this unit when it tells you to "Slow down". I've owned other units and brands but the 955 is the most dependable.

Comments about Beltronics Vector 955 Radar Detector:

I was 42 y.o. in 7/2010 when I bought my first radar detector, a Beltronics V955. I have been driving fast since I was 18, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out why I never purchased one of these "fine busters". I purchased this item for a long road trip that year that would take us from the busy freeways of So Cal, all the way up to within 30 minutes south of the Canadian border in Washington State. And back again.

I kid you not, the V955 paid for itself on that one trip alone. Several times over!

They (and you know who "they" are) tried to hide in gullies between the highways, they tried hiding behind signs, they tried hiding behind trees and side roads, yet THEY FAILED everytime in speed trapping us on that trip and every road trip since then.

I only use the V955 on longer road trips where I will be on unfamiliar ground. Every such roadie has been iron clad protected with its use. At minimum, I gain the advantage at least one (1) time per trip.

Add up all the savings from unsolicited fines and increased insurance premiums, and it all becomes a no brainer. You fellow lead foots need a radar detector.

After almost two (2) years of countless scanned highway warnings, admittedly, some closer than others (but always with enough time to heed the warning), I had to let everyone else know that they can trust a Beltronics V955. The V955 seems to fit our occasional useage just fine but I will have to assume that the rest of the Beltronic products can be equally trusted.

The only thing I wish my V955 had is a warning symbol telling me if the detection has been made in front of me or behind me. But I bet if I was willing to pay more, that option could have been found in another unit.

But for now, I'll keep saving as is.

      Good luck out there...
