Maximum Range Front
Radar Detector Test

The maximum range front test was performed on a completely flat, eleven mile stretch of US 54 in New Mexico. This test differs from the Constant On and Instant On tests that that the vehicles are moving. Further the radar guns were constantly transmitting during the testing. A Stalker Dual at 34.7 GHz replaced the Bee III at 33.8 GHz for the Ka band gun. A MPH K-55 X band 10.525 and a Stalker Basic K band 24.150 GHz were also used.

Detector X Band K Band Ka Band
Bel RX65 8.9 miles 10.8 miles 11+ miles
Escort X50 10.7 miles 10.8 miles 11+ miles
Valentine 1 11 + miles 11+ miles 10.8 miles

With these long range results, some people may be bothered by these long range warnings and either ignore them or even turning their radar detector off, DON'T!

Some of the under $200.00 detectors also performed very well during this testing such as the Cobra 9700 reporting X band at 10.7 miles and Ka at 8.8 miles. The Whistler began alerting at 9.2 miles on K band.
