400% Better Range
The completely redesigned SOLO S2 provides long-range warning on all radar bands, including conventional and "instant-on" X-band, K-band, and Superwide Ka-band. Patented Digital Signal Processing (DSP) provides the longest warning possible without constant false alarms. A new waveguide antenna, a new low-powered digital receiver, and a high-speed microprocessor with Escort's proprietary software, all run efficiently on just two standard AA batteries. The results are impressive, including an astonishing 400% improvement in detection range on Ka-band over other cordless detectors.
High-Efficiency Power Management
The SOLO S2's new power management circuit has also been redesigned to give you the longest battery life possible. It constantly watches the condition of your batteries and reminds you to replace them before it's too late.
SOLO S2 uses only a fraction of the power used by conventional corded detectors. Using 2 standard AA batteries (included), the SOLO S2 provides months of normal driving protection. A new low-battery warning circuit keeps constant watch on the condition of the batteries, and provides you with both audible and visual alerts before they need to be replaced. We've also added a new AutoPower feature (programmable), which conserves battery life by automatically turning your SOLO S2 off when not in use, and can even remind you to turn it back on once you start rolling again.

This detector is amazing, another person on here said the mount was flimsy, I don't really know why that was a complaint or why it warranted only 3 stars. This detector is 5 stars all the way, it has very good range especially considering it is cordless (and it even has an optional corded possibility!). I just went on a trip all over the Western US and saw three drivers pass me as my detector alerted me and they all got pulled over!!! I was ecstatic, I cannot put into words how invaluable this guy is on long trips through other states!
My only small issue was it got some false reads in cities, but hey that goes with the territory right? They put a mute on this thing for that very reason. The mount was not flimsy and the thing only rocked when I was on bumpy poorly upkept roads, again that goes with the territory. If you are looking for a very solid detector without the hassle of hooking cords all over your dash this is the unit for you!

Yes, this is the best cordless detector you can get. Problem is, you have to sacrifice sensitivity because of the fact it operates on batteries. The batteries last a long time, but IMO, too long. I would love to have this unit generate a little more power to up the sensitivity at the expense of recharging my batteries more often. The unit is a bit light, but not flimsy. Excellent detector overall, but if you push your luck, go with a corded one. Top choice for people who have to stash it fast, move from car to car, or need one on their motorcycle. Has a headphone adapter, which is convenient. This is an old design, it would be nice to see a new design come out with some more power and sturdier feel. VG2-proof, but Spectre will catch this one, so be ready to turn it off fast if you're in Ontario.

I've been through many detectors in the past. This is by far the best one yet.. To top it off, it's cordless!! So easy to move to my other vehicles. I would recommend this radar as must buy to anyone looking!!

Found this refurb. for $140.00 off list price. My wife has gotten refurb. items herself and they were like new, couldn't tell the difference. The same with this detector. I contacted the cust. service dept. about the missing storage case and they were very helpful to remendy the problem. Had the car out once so far and no complaints (with car or det.). Just bought a '13 Boss 302 Mustang and the detector mounts perfect on the dash in the middle detented section, I have it velcroed for easy removal. Shipping was unbelieviable, next day delivery.

Didn't come with the carrying case that is advertised with new units. Audible alert sounds should be louder. Seems to give adequate warning.
