Remote vs. Windshield Mounted Radar Detectors

Which radar detector has better performance, a remote mounted radar detector that retails for $1299.95 or a windshield mounted radar detector that retails for $599.95?

Many people feel that just because remote mounted radar detectors cost twice or three times as much then a windshield mounted radar detector that they must have better performance.

Well this is not always the case and because of this I recorded this 3-minute video comparing the Beltronics STiR Plus remote mounted radar detector to the Escort Passport Max2 windshield mounted radar detector.

The main reason that the Passport Max2 had faster response time in this encounter is because its antenna is mounted almost 3 feet higher then the antenna of the STiR Plus which was mounted on the front bumper.

As we’ve demonstrated in this video, just because a radar detector costs more doesn’t always mean it will perform better as one of the most important factors you need to consider is how you will mount your detector.
